Madison Crum Interview

Interview w/ Madison Crum

What year were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born in 1992 and raised in Havelock NC, 20 minutes from the southern outer banks.

When did you start skating?

I dabbled with skateboards growing up but devoted more energy into surfing until after high school. I then went to school in Boone, NC and learned about the downhill skate scene and fell in love with the culture and setting.

I was able to learn the sport from some of the best, exploring deep-south-Appalachia from very unique perspective. My favorite moments always come from finding roads that change our idea of how steep or perfect we can build these asphalt snake runs. Years spent scrolling topographical maps and endless driving couldn't be more exciting.

What have you been up to lately?

Lately I've distanced myself from the desire to max out dangerous roads, but I cant shake the urge to cruise down a couple miles of smooth pavement. While the reward structure of surfing and street skating is more addictive, downhill is as close to an endless wave as you can get.

I've recently moved a few hours from the mountains down to wilmington NC to get closer to family, surfing, and learning how else you can ride a skateboard
