Roller Derby World Cup 2025 - Innsbruck, Austria

After a 7-year wait, the Roller Derby World Cup is back! The 2025 edition will take place in Innsbruck, Austria, marking the first time the tournament is held on the European mainland. It will be hosted by Fearless Bruisers Roller Derby, a league founded in 2016 with a focus on queer-feminist contact sports on skates.

The Roller Derby World Cup is an international tournament featuring national and borderless teams from around the world. Known for showcasing top-tier flat track skating, it has grown significantly since its debut.

The first World Cup was held in Toronto, Canada, in December 2011, with 13 teams competing.

  • Runner-up: Team Canada

The second edition took place in Dallas, Texas, hosted by Blood & Thunder, and featured 30 teams. The level of competition rose as the sport continued to grow.

The most recent tournament was in Manchester, England, in 2018, organized by Rainy City Roller Derby and the RDWC Committee. With 38 teams, it was the largest yet. Due to COVID-19, the next edition faced delays, building even greater anticipation.

The 2025 World Cup will feature over 40 teams, including several borderless teams, which provide representation for skaters from diasporas, immigrant backgrounds, and stateless communities. This inclusive evolution is a powerful reflection of the sport’s global reach and cultural diversity.
