Team S1 vs Team Riedell: Raising the Bar for Roller Derby Coverage

Nine cameras. Two elite teams. One unique perspective on the track. Welcome to Monster Bash!

Roller derby is an incredible sport. It's fast, physical, strategic, and full of movement that can be difficult to fully appreciate when you're watching from a single camera angle. We believe it deserves to be presented with the same level of production, creativity, and attention as any professional sport.

That's why, for the S1 vs. Riedell game at RollerCon 2026, we set out to create a more immersive viewing experience—one that captures the speed, athleticism, and intensity of roller derby in a way that does justice to the sport.

This year, we're bringing nine cameras to the track, giving viewers more ways to experience the action and see the game unfold. One of the most exciting additions is the Jam Ref Cam.

Mounted to the chest of a jam referee, this GoPro captures a perspective rarely seen in roller derby. Jam refs skate around the inside of the track, following the action alongside one of the jammers. With the camera moving with them, viewers get an up-close, dynamic look at the speed and movement of the game from right inside the track.

Think of it as a moving dolly shot built directly into the game. Instead of watching the action from a fixed position, viewers can follow the flow of a jam from the perspective of an official skating alongside it. It's a different way to experience the sport, bringing a sense of movement and immersion that traditional camera angles simply can't replicate.

The Jam Ref Cam is just one part of a broader effort to showcase roller derby in a new light. With nine cameras capturing the game from different angles, our goal is to reveal more of the athleticism, strategy, and split-second decisions that make this sport so compelling.

We believe roller derby deserves more than one or two cameras pointed at the track. It deserves thoughtful, creative production that captures the details, intensity, and personality of the game. By investing in a more immersive viewing experience, we hope to make roller derby even more exciting for longtime fans while helping new audiences understand what makes this sport so special.

Ultimately, this is about giving roller derby the platform it deserves. The better we capture the sport, the better we can share it with the world.

And what better place to put that vision into action than RollerCon, surrounded by the athletes, fans, and community who make this sport what it is?

A Rivalry Takes Shape

Every year, RollerCon brings together the teams, athletes, and brands that make roller derby such a unique sport. And on the first day of RollerCon 2026, one of the event's favorite traditions returns to the track: Team S1 vs. Team Riedell.

Set against the backdrop of the Expo at the World Market Center in downtown Las Vegas, this matchup brings together two storied names in roller derby for a game that has become about much more than the final score.

Team S1 has been around since 2014, while Team Riedell has been part of the roller derby landscape for even longer. Both brands have deep roots in the sport, and in 2022, they brought that history to the track for the first time.

What started as a friendly matchup has grown into a highly competitive RollerCon tradition. Through five games, Riedell holds a narrow 3–2 advantage over S1, setting the stage for another chapter in a rivalry that neither team is ready to surrender.

Of course, the brands are only part of the story. Both teams feature stacked rosters filled with some of the highest-caliber skaters in the sport. These athletes compete at the highest levels of roller derby, bringing an incredible combination of skill, experience, and competitive fire to the track.

Put that much talent together, and you know you're in for a game. The rivalry may be friendly off the track, but once the skaters lace up, the competition is real.

When the Party Comes to the Track

The story of this matchup doesn't end when the final whistle blows.

Following the first S1 vs. Riedell game in 2022, S1 joined Riedell as a co-sponsor of RollerCon's Thursday night costume theme party in 2023. It was a natural fit. RollerCon has always been about more than the games themselves; it's also a celebration of the creativity, individuality, and community that make roller derby special.

And if there's a party worth celebrating, why not bring that same energy to the track?

The idea grew into a tradition of its own. Each year, the S1 vs. Riedell game gets a fresh look inspired by the costume party's theme, complete with custom artwork and specially designed uniforms. The result is a matchup that celebrates both the competitive side of roller derby and its wonderfully over-the-top creative spirit.

We've lit things up with a Glow Party, dressed to impress for Prom, and embraced our rebellious side with Punk Rock Rebellion. Each theme has brought a new visual identity to the game, giving the teams another way to celebrate RollerCon and the community around it.

Every year, the artwork and uniforms become part of the experience, turning the game into something more than a competition between two teams. They connect the action on the track to the celebration happening throughout RollerCon, where self-expression and creativity are just as much a part of the culture as the sport itself.

And this year, things are getting a little scary.

Welcome to Monster Bash!

For RollerCon 2026, Team S1 and Team Riedell are embracing the spooky side of roller derby with this year's theme: Monster Bash!

Bringing this year's vision to life is Skate Good Club, who created the artwork and custom uniforms for both teams. Their designs give this year's matchup its own distinct look, adding another layer of creativity to a rivalry that continues to grow with every RollerCon.

The custom uniforms have become an important part of what makes this game special. They're an opportunity to take the theme beyond the costume party and put it directly on the track, giving both teams a unique look while celebrating the imagination and personality of roller derby culture.

From the Glow Party to Prom and Punk Rock Rebellion, each year has brought something different. Monster Bash is the latest chapter in that tradition, continuing the collaboration between competition, design, and community that has helped make this matchup a RollerCon favorite.

With custom artwork, themed uniforms, and elite athletes ready to compete, this year's game brings together everything we love about roller derby: the athleticism, the creativity, the rivalries, and the people who make it all happen.

More Than a Game

The S1 vs. Riedell matchup represents something bigger than a rivalry between two roller derby brands. It's a celebration of the sport and the community that surrounds it, and an opportunity to explore new ways to share roller derby with the world.

From investing in an immersive, nine-camera production to bringing unique perspectives like the Jam Ref Cam to the broadcast, we want to help show the sport in a way that captures everything happening on the track. From the custom uniforms created by Skate Good Club to the elite skaters who bring the competition to life, every element contributes to an experience that is distinctly roller derby.

We believe this sport deserves to be seen, experienced, and appreciated for everything it has to offer. And we believe the best way to move it forward is to keep investing in the things that make it special.

As RollerCon 2026 gets underway in Las Vegas, we're ready for another chapter in this growing tradition. The rosters are stacked, the cameras are rolling, and the Monster Bash uniforms are ready for their moment on the track.

Riedell leads the rivalry 3–2. S1 is looking to even the score. And with nine cameras capturing the action, we're ready to bring you closer to the game than ever before.

Two iconic roller derby brands. Two elite teams. One monstrous matchup.
